Petroleum Institute University and Research Centre (PI) signed an agreement with Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) to conduct research on its oil and gas exploration and production in Sharjah.
The agreement aims to exchange knowledge between the PI’s research team and SNOC’s E&P experts and to provide Masters in Science (MSc) and PhD internship opportunities for the PI students for research purposes, among other areas of collaboration such as summer internship, the companies said in a statement.
“We look forward to developing a rewarding and long-term partnership with the Sharjah National Oil Corporation, and working with them to ensure the UAE’s oil and gas sector includes the best talent,” said Dr. Ebrahim Al Hajri, director of collaborations and external affairs.
“Sharjah National Oil Corporation is proud to partner with the Petroleum Institute in oil and gas exploration and production research.” said Hatem Al Mosa, CEO of SNOC. “This is aligned with SNOC’s core values of People, Innovation and Continuous Improvement. This is also aligned with SNOC’s social agenda of supporting higher level education and research within the UAE.”
Masoud Al Hamadi, exploration and production manager, at SNOC said: “SNOC, which operates mature gas fields in the emirate focusing on its producing assets and surface processing facilities, has now progressed to include more detailed evaluation of the subsurface away from the existing fields. Our collaboration with the Petroleum Institute will go a long way to helping deliver SNOC’s exploration and development vision to excel in all technical disciplines such as geo-science, petroleum engineering and R&D.”
PI currently has more than 2000 undergraduate and graduate students, over 200 faculty. The PI’s sponsors and affiliates include the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and four major international oil companies; BP, Japan Oil Development Company (JODCO), Shell and Total.
State-owned SNOC owns and operates the Sajaa Asset concession - with three gas fields and has the main gas production and processing facility, about 40 km outside the city of Sharjah, providing a key energy lifeline to the people of the Northern Emirates.
